Following are some photos from the August 3rd picnic and tour at Lester and Shirley Farmer’s woodland near Estacada.  Great people and great food in conjunction with near-perfect weather made for an outstanding picnic and walk in the woods.  Thanks to all those who organized this event for bringing all of us together for the evening.  Most importantly, a BIG THANKS to the Farmers’ for opening up their beautiful woodland to all those in attendance.

Lester & Shirley welcome their guests and give everyone a brief history of the property before heading into the woods.
Lester explaining plans for an Oak restoration project at the first stop on the tour.
Lester demonstrates his use of plastic milk jugs for protecting trees from mountain beaver damage. Very creative and very effective.
Seven-year old regeneration in a 10-acre
Lester standing next to a few seven-year old trees. You read that correctly… those are seven-year old trees behind him. Nitrogen-fixation from the Red Alder that used to occupy this area probably plays a big role in this incredible growth.
